Feeding the Homeless Community in Taipei

Taipei’s homelessness problem has been growing, with many people gathering around Taipei Main Station for easier access to public facilities, transportation, and temporary shelter. The station has become a central spot for the city’s homeless population, reflecting larger issues like rising living costs, unemployment, and limited social support. While there are government programs and local efforts offering temporary shelters and job assistance, the problem continues, showing the need for more long-term, sustainable solutions.

We’ve partnered with SALT Collectiv, a local Taipei organization dedicated to empowering marginalized groups through creative initiatives and social outreach. Together, we aim to address homelessness in Taipei by providing essential resources, organizing awareness events, and fostering meaningful connections between the community and those in need.

Once a month, we partner with SALT Collectiv to deliver 150 nutritious boxed meals and care packages filled with essentials like hygiene products, warm clothing, and basic supplies to those living near Taipei Main Station. But beyond meeting immediate needs, these efforts create opportunities for meaningful connection and support, reminding the homeless community that they are seen, valued, and not alone in their struggles. Through this partnership, we strive to provide more than just resources—we aim to foster a lasting sense of dignity, compassion, and hope.

In addition to providing meals and care packages, we take the time to sit down and talk with members of the homeless community, listening to their stories and forming genuine connections. These conversations are essential in building trust and showing that our support goes beyond material aid—it’s about acknowledging their humanity and creating a space where they feel heard and respected.

Not only do we serve the homeless through these events, but these shared interactions and stories also offer our volunteers a chance to cultivate compassion, empathy, and understanding. By hearing firsthand about the challenges faced by those experiencing homelessness, volunteers gain a deeper awareness of the systemic issues at play and the resilience of the individuals behind the statistics. This mutual exchange transforms the experience from simple charity into a powerful, human-centered connection, fostering a community where both those giving and receiving support are enriched.

Through this ongoing relationship, we hope to break down stereotypes, inspire lasting change, and remind everyone involved that even small gestures of kindness can have a profound impact.
