Serving the Homeless Community in Taipei

We partnered with SALT Collectiv to supply the homeless population of Taipei with healthy meals and care packages. We hold the event monthly at Taipei Main Station, where there is a large homeless population, to foster meaningful connections with them.

We partnered with SALT Collectiv, a Taiwanese nonprofit that serves marginalized groups of the local Taipei community, to hold a monthly event at Taipei Main Station where we disburse 150 meals and care packages to the homeless population. These meals are purchased from local Taiwanese restaurants and we make sure that they’re fresh, nutritious, and healthy. The care packages include any necessities that the homeless might need, which we learn from observing or talking with them, asking them what they would like. These include anything from socks, earplugs, blankets, snacks, fruit, and others.

When volunteers pass out the meals and supplies, they stop to have conversations with the homeless. Since many homeless are long-term residents around Taipei Main Station and we see a lot of familiar faces each time, we build meaningful relationships with them. Listening to the homeless and understanding their struggles adds to the compassion that volunteers have for them and builds the trust that the homeless have in us, and we can work more effectively together with them to help improve their situation.
